[932] John's Head on a plate and the half kingdom dance of Herodias' daughter

1 In that appointed-time/season Herod, the tetriarch, heard the report of Jesus
2
and said to his servants/boys: This is John, the Baptist. He was raised up from the dead [ones], and due to this the powerful-works are operating in him.
3
For Herod having arrested John bound him and put him away in prison due to Herodias, the wife of Philip, his brother.
4
For John had been saying to him: It is not lawful for you to be having her.
5
However, although willing to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they held him as [wj] a prophet [they held him to be a prophet, not to be like a prophet. This is not comparative. It is literal].
6
But when the birthday-festivities of Herod occurred, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst [of them] and pleased Herod.
7
From which he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.
8
But she, having been coached under her mother, said: Give me here upon a plate, the head of John, the Baptist.
9
And having been grieved, the king, due to the oaths and the [ones] reclining with [him] commanded [it] to be given;
10
and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.
11
And his head was brought on a plate and given to the maiden, [korasin] and she brought [it] to her mother.
12
And his disciples came up and removed the corpse and buried him and came and reported back to Jesus (Matthew 14 NWT).

14 Now the King, Herod, heard [about Jesus] for his name became manifest, and they were saying that John, the [one] baptizing has been raised out of [the] dead [ones], and due to this the powerful-works are operating in him.
15
But others were saying that it is Elijah. Still others were saying that [it is] a prophet like [wj] one of the prophets [partitive genitive].
16
But Herod, having heard said: John, whom I beheaded, this [one] has been raised up.
17
For Herod himself had sent out and arrested John and bound him in prison due to Herodias, the wife of Philip [horse-loving], his brother, because he had married her.
18
For John was saying to Herod that it is not lawful for you to be having the wife of your brother.
19
So Herodias was having within/obsessed [with - dative] him and was wanting to kill him, but could not.
20
For Herod was fearing John, knowing him to be a male [andrej] righteous and holy; and he was keeping-safe him. And after hearing many [things] of him he was at-a-loss, yet he continued to hear him gladly.
21
Now [at the time - epi] of a convenient day arriving, when Herod spread an evening-meal for his birthday-festivities for his top-ranking-men and for the chiliarchs and for the foremost [ones] of Galilee.
22
And [at the time - epi] of his daughter of Herodias having entered and having danced, she pleased Herod and the [ones] reclining with him. So the king said to the maiden [korasin]: Ask me for whatever you want, and I will give it to you.
23
Yes, he swore to her: Whatever you ask me for, I will give it to you, up to half [hmisouj] of my kingdom [partitive genitive].
24
And she went out and said to her mother: What should I ask for? She said: The head of John, the [one] baptizing.
25
And immediately having entered she requested to the king with haste, saying: I want you to give me right away on a plate, the head of John, the Baptist.
26
Although the king became deeply grieved, due to the oaths the [ones] reclining he did not want to disregard her.
27
So the king dispatched a body-guardsman and commanded him to bring his head immediately. And he went off and beheaded him in the prison [the Greek reads: having sent off the guard he commanded him - not easy to do!]
28
and brought his head on a plate, and he gave it to the maiden, and the maiden gave it to her mother.
29
And having heard, his disciples came and took up his corpse and laid it in a memorial-tomb [mnhmeiw] (Mark 6).
